Accurate diagnosis and management of dermatological diseases can only be made when the lesion is completely visualized. Currently, dermoscopy and photography are the most commonly utilized technologies by dermatologists. However, recently ultrasound (US) has grabbed quite the attention of dermatologists as a useful noninvasive modality, which can help during the clinical examination in an early and more accurate diagnosis.

Further, recent years have also seen advancements like the development of handheld devices and ultra-high frequency probes. These modalities have further expanded the service of US in day-to-day dermatology practice.

The US has facilitated precise inspection of disease severity and activity in various inflammatory dermatoses; diagnosis and preoperative planning of skin tumors; mitigating the need for skin biopsy in particular situations such as pediatric population and nail/hair disorders.
